Brainstorming and Planning

A big part of planning is creativity....

Coming up with ideas is important when working in any industry, particularly when you are trying to problem solve.

Often you will be given a brief:
"Design a new character for super Mario bros"

And you will be required to develop some ideas.

There is a problem however, some of us are stuck inside a box and find it very difficult to be creative.

Task: Design a new superhero

In order to learn the creative process, we are going to undergo creating a new super hero

We will go through the process of brainstorming, planning and creating a super hero.

Here is the Brief:

"Marvel Studios wants a new super hero for the New Zealand Audience, They want some concepts or ideas that will help"

I have created Duncanator using a program called hero machine on the right.

Here is his backstory:

"Duncan was bullied at boys high for being a nerd, however he dedicated himself to the mystical ways of Sir Ernest Rutherford. Soon he was able to overcome his adversity and he became Duncanator the hero with the power of science".

Task: Create a super hero from a brainstorm

Step 1. Brainstorming

The first step is to create a series of different brainstorms regarding your character.

You may want to do research, first

You could look here:
powerlisting.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Supernatural_Powers_and_Abilities

Task: Make 3 different brainstorms for your character
Brainstorm 1 - Character Power
Brainstorm 2 - Character Look
Brainstorm 3 - Character backstory (remember all backstories have adversity and tragedy).

Each brainstorm should have at least 5 main ideas that split into 3 sub ideas

Step 2. Refine

From your brainstorm Pick a super power, with some sub ideas.

Write a paragraph about your super hero.

Use this if you are having trouble thinking of a name:

Once you have created your character get feedback from 2 different people, and refine your idea again.

Dragonloom

Dragonloom was born as a poor peasant during medieval times. His village was attacked and destroyed by King Desmond IV. Dragonloom was dying until a dragon granted him life. As a result he earned scale armor skin and fire immunity/breathing.

Unfortunately King Desmond's evil wizard sent him hurtling into the future (present day). He was unable to exact his vengeance, but does still quest for justice.

Dragon loom wears the armor granted to him by the dragon, complete with sword. His skin is green and has scales.

Feedback 1: I don't like his skin being green and with scales... could you make his armor gold with scales?

Step 3. Concept Mock-ups

We are going to make a concept mock-up for your character
using "Hero Forge"

Use hero Forge to create your character

Put everything in OneNote

Bonus Task - Repeat these steps to create a super villain for your hero
